Superfoods and rejuvenators from South America: Acai, Maca and Lucuma are real superfoods, that give you more power – and I processed a lot of it in my acai and blueberry superfood cheesecake. Result: yummmm!
"But it is meaningless to post something, that nobody has got at home," my always omniscient mother said to my plans to post "real" Superfood Recipes with imported Acai, Maca, Lucuma from South America. Well, at first I reacted somewhat discouraged because she was actually pretty right, and I almost shut my cookbook by Julie Morris, entitled "Super Food Kitchen" and was annoyed to myself because I had spent nearly 40 euros on these ingredients at Amazon. On the other hand it occurred to me, that only a few months earlier hardly anyone had known what chia seeds are. And know all kinds of folks are eating them for breakfast. So why shouldn’t Maca, Acai and Lucuma get widely spread in everybodys supermarket one day? I would really not be surprised so far.
But what I was interested in most from the beginning are the effects from South American Super food stuff on our health. Maca, Acai & Co are praised everywhere as a rejuvenator. Julie Morris also describes this in her book. She had originally felt really powerless - which came from too much coffee, sweet brownies and stress. Thanks Superfood Julie could change her life, she writes. This made me curious, and I also liked the recipes in her book, which looked delicious. So I thought about for a year, and finally I decided to buy this superfood powder via internet and to prepare some of these recipes. Result: The Acai berry cheesecake is absolutely delicious !! Whether I’ll gain more energy, remains to be seen - I have at least not regretted my Superfood shopping. Super Food Facts:
Acai, the Brazilian super berry, is very powerful. Because of its high content of calcium, phosphorus, iron and the high proportion of antioxidants it is very popular as a complement to diets.
Maca, the Peruvian power root, grows in the Andes at 4000 m altitude. It contains many important minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and iron, as well as valuable phytochemicals. As a source of energy Maca is especially appreciated by athletes.
Lucuma is a South American fruit with a high concentration of beta-carotene, Vitamin B3 and iron, zinc, calcium and magnesium and antioxidants. Lucuma is not only a good nutrient donator but also has appetite suppressant effect and promotes, applied to the skin, the healing of wounds.

Acai berry cheesecake
Inspired by: Julie Morris, "Superfood Kitchen"
Cocoa and walnut floor:
- ½ cup of cocoa, unsweetened (according to original recipe with cocoa nibs - I could not get these ingredient unfortunately)
- ½ cup walnuts
- 1 cup dates without core (heaped)
- 3 tablespoons Lucumapulver
- 2 large cups cashews (500 grams), soaked in water 2 hrs.
- 1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons agave nectar
- ½ cup coconut oil (melted)
- ½ cup acai powder
- 1 tablespoon Lucumapulver
- 2 mashed bananas
- 1 tablespoon tahini (sesame butter)
- 1 cup dates (shredded), without core
- 3 cups fresh blueberries
Chop walnuts and dates for the pie crust in a food processor, then mix to a dough with cocoa and lucumapowder and press the dough on the bottom of a springform pan. Then mix the soaked cashews in a powerful blender or food processor along with the liquid filling ingredients and mix it all to a smooth cream. Stir the dates with bananas, lucuma, acai and the cashew cream. Pour the cream on the cake bottom put the cake in the freezer overnight. Thaw it about half an hour before eating. You can store the cake in the freezer for at least three weeks.
